Egyptian Scarabs, have been hand-carved since ancient times out of soft steatite stone, then kiln-fired and glazed. Sacred Scarab Beetles (Scarabaeus sacer) roll and bury great balls of dung as part of their life process to feed and sustain their young - great ecologists in their habitat! To ancient Egyptians they represented the Sun God Ra and the cycle of Life and Rebirth. Scarab beetles navigate using the light of the moon (some species even use the Milky Way!) moving towards light and new life that the sun brings with the dawn. Part of an ancient tradition of wearing protective amulets, the wearer is endowed by the qualities that the amulet represents, protected from evil forces and bringing good fortune.
