rudraksha seed mala and bracelets

~ Rudraksha Seed Mala ~

These uniquely textured seeds have traditionally been used as prayer beads in Hinduism but are also common in Buddhist Prayer Mala. They are considered a sacred material, and it is believed they hold the energy of a recited mantra, helping to support the worshiper in their spiritual development.

In Sanskrit, “Rudra” is one of Lord Shiva’s Vedic names and “Aksa” means teardrops. The Rudraksha seed earned this name from the belief that Lord Shiva shed a single tear after a period of deep meditation and from that tear a Rudraksha tree grew. Because of this, the seeds are commonly worn for Shiva’s protection and often accompanied by the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya”.
